Gifts, talents, moments of brilliance . . . we all have them. Don't let anyone ever kid you, or tell you that you don't have them. Each one of is unique and blessed with gifts. Each day we choose to use our gifts .. or not. Maybe there are days that are so filled with 'living' that we don't get a chance to truly cultivate our talents or spend them as freely as we would like, or in the way that we would like, but tomorrow is a new day, a new opportunity. Personally, I struggle with that delimma all the time. There just aren't enough hours in each day to do it all. In some respects, my full plate keeps me going. I love what I do and I do what I love - but I also know when to take breaks.
On the days that I'm feeling somewhat depleted, not particularly happy with progress on some of my projects, or when I'm just craving for some down time, I take a break. Today I got my bike tuned up and toured Fredericksburg for an hour. I backed off a little bit from some of my other commitments even though they were things I really wanted to do. There's always another day, the work will get done - at home, in the garden, my business, my hobbies and interests - and I will make some time for my creative projects. But, to stay healthy and enjoy the journey, I know at times I just have to back off a bit from commitments and responsibilities, even if it's just for a couple hours.
Backing off helps to avoid off burn out. It enables you to 'stop and smell the roses'. You give yourself a much needed break - and the opportunity to pursue your dreams with renewed vigor another day.
