Do you know how how much greenhouse gas you are personally emitting into the atmosphere? If you're interested in finding out, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) has a nifty, easy to use calculator that will tell you at this link: Climate Change - Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
If you've been by IResolveTo.Com recently, you've read my Monday-Wednesday-Friday column about Climate Change and Global Warming. My personal New Year Resolution in 2008 is to 'express my gratitude and give back' and the environment is one of my recipients, as I strive to educate
myself and others about small daily steps that we can take to reduce our 'carbon footprints' and in turn reduce the threat of Global Warming.
I'm committed to taking small daily steps, one at a time, one day at a time - toward reducing the threat of Global Warming - the same as I'm committed to making my dreams, resolutions and goals a reality. In this case my 2008 resolution can make a big difference for the environment if I stick with it for the long-haul, a Lifetime Resolution. My actions will really add up over time, creating incredible personal change, as well as benfiting the environment. If you join me, and others join you, and so on - well that's Global Change in the making instead of Climate Change and Global Warmng! So what's the first step, and the next one, and the next? You need a dream, desire, commitment, a plan, and enough energy to 'go for it' one step/goal at a time one day at a time for one year. That kind of system will produce tangible, realistic results.
To build a plan, the first step is to educate yourself - and that's what I'm striving to with my resolution. I'm starting with the basics: What is your carbon footprint and 'how do you give the boot to your carbon footprint'? In a nutshell, what I've learned is that it is a measure of our activities on the environment in terms of the volume of greenhouse gases that we produce: CO2 - Carbon. And why is that important? Scientists say the trapped gases in the atmosphere are causing Global Warming, which will wreak devastation worldwide over time.
Interested in learning more? Why not check out the EPA website. Take the test and calculate your greenhouse gas emissions. I did and I was well above average, so I have lots of room for improvement in 2008. I'm starting with with driving less vehicle miles right now - and I'm going to plant a tree or two this Spring since trees absorb Carbon. Maybe a nice Blue Spruce! So how about it? Interested in learning more about your Carbon Footprint and how to achieve New Year Resolutions? Hey, maybe you can join me: Make a resolution to 'Give Back To The Environment In 2008'.
