The leaves are turning shades of red, yellow and orange, days are pleasant, evenings are crisp - 'Yes' Fall is upon us. The first day of Autumn officially arrived on September 22 and evidence of its arrival is now appearing. What better time to 'winterize' - an activity that can protect your home (likely your nest egg and a major investment), save some cash, and protect the environment? Turn off the television and stop checking your investment portfolio. As I write this the stock market continues to tank - and the news is full of doom and gloom. While we can't control what's happening on Wall Street, in the banking industry, and in the world markets - we can control our own attitude and actions. The sun is shining and a long holiday weekend is before us. What better time to do something proactive: Begin the process of winterizing our homes. Personally I'm going to tack some Fall house cleaning onto my list of weekend projects!
It's Friday - Tip Day for ways to 'Give The Boot To Our Carbon Footprints'. In 2008 my New Year Resolution is to 'show gratitude' for my blessings by 'giving back' and the environment is one of my recipients. I dedicate three columns each week to news, information and ideas about small, daily steps we can take to reduce our Carbon Footprints. Consider the huge, positive, long-range impact on the environment if each one of us performs 'habitual' actions - like driving fewer vehicle miles, using more energy efficient light bulbs, and turning off lights when we leave rooms. My goal, as an individual, is to urge others to follow my lead, and take a few small steps each and every day toward protecting the environment.
Each time I undertake a new set of goals for my resolution to help the environment - I do my homework. I educate myself about what I need to do, how long it will take - and I post that information here at I Resolve To . . . in an effort to help others. I hope this weekend, you'll join me and consider the steps it will take to winterize your home . . . and while you're at it, do a little daydreaming, spend a little time on your own cherished dreams, resolutions and goals.
