One eight ounce glass of orange juice is all it takes to get 120% of the Daily Value of Vitamin C. I found that fact this morning on the back of my favorite juice carton (which also stated that a single glass of vitamin-laced juice also provides 25% of the Daily Value of Vitamin D, 35% of of the Daily Value of Calcium, and to a smaller extent, Folate, Thiamin and Potassium). I have learned, in my study of what works and what doesn't work with resolution-setting, that simplicity, repetition (one small step at a time, one day at a time, over the long haul), as well as practical process and tasks promote success and momentum.
One glass of orange juice fits that description - a simple, easy way to get a quick hit of important vitamins and an easy habit to develop since I love orange juice - so I intend to 'Remember Orange Juice In The Morning', as part of my I Resolve To . . . I have been working to keep a healthy diet - including fresh fruit and vegetables, along with antidioxidant-rich foods like almonds - front and center in 2009. Being conscious of what I am buying, cooking and eating also calls for a stepped up effort to learn new things about good nutrition. Both conscious living and learning new things are among my many 'daily resolves', so I did some research today and found a wealth of information about the importance of Vitamin C to a healthy diet and immune system. What I read also reinforced my belief that moderation is a good approach to most things. I enjoy orange, apple and cranberry juice, but am well aware that they can be high in sugar and should not be a replacement for fresh whole fruit, which contains fiber. With that in mind, I intend to drink OJ, but moderately. Here is a short list of websites that provides an array of information about orange juice and Vitamin C:
