Foot power is typically my first choice when I am searching for alternatives to my car in the city, but walking isn't always practical if the distance is too great, or my schedule doesn't allow for the luxury of a good long walk. Every day, I look for ways to live a 'greener lifestyle' and driving fewer vehicle miles is one of my priorities. Obviously, it doesn't make sense to hop on a fume-belching metro bus that will take two hours to get to my destination when a 10-minute ride in my car would do the job more effectively. Many cities across the country, however, are converting to cleaner fuel and transportation, so it does make sense to weigh potential benefits of public transportation when it is an efficient, practical choice.
I intend to 'Help The Environment By Taking Public Transportation', when it makes sense, as part of my I Resolve To . . . Challenge: 365 Resolutions For Health & Happiness. Why not join me? The objective is very simple: Do at least one thing each and every day to promote health and happiness for 'YOU'. Banish the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome'. Instead, make every day New Year's Day. Make every day count. The list of possibilities is infinite and can be tailored to your own dreams, resolutions and daily goals. If you need some help - a little nudge, a bit of inspiration, tips, advice, and news about the best ways to make resolutions a reality - please use IResolveTo.Com as one of your resources. When I am working and playing in Washington, I typically park my car and walk as much as possible from appointment to appointment. When walking isn't possible, I intend to make better use of D.C.'s wonderful subway system, the Metro. When I lived in the city, I used it frequently, and I intend to re-build that habit. In doing some research about the pros and cons of using public transportation when you're trying to help the environment, I ran into a number of interesting articles and websites. As it typically true with most things, it pays off to do your homework and to be conscious of your transportation choices and their potential impacts on the environment. Sometimes using a car for a short trip makes infinitely more sense than public transportation. Here are a number of useful websites and articles that provide interesting food for thought:
