Have you ever fallen in love with a place? Perhaps embraced a city that you explored while on vacation - or maybe find enormous joy in your hometown, or the city where you now live? I have found one of the greatest joys in my life and an on-going source of happiness is my home and the city that I call home. I have lived in a number of places over the years that I truly adored - I fell in love with Washington, DC for instance, and spent a decade living and working in the nation's capital. I was fortunate to find my dream home quickly in 1993 when I moved to the city - the very first loft condominium that I viewed was love at first sight and I spent many happy years in Adams Morgan.
Alas, I eventually yearned for a city with a midwest look and feel (I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska). After a lengthy search in 2002-2003, I found my next dream home, and community, in Fredericksburg, Virginia - a place that is filled with history and kind, wonderful people. I, again, am in love with a place. Just as I adored walking the neighborhoods of DC (and still do), I passionately explore Fredericksburg, its neighborhoods and battlefields, by foot, often with my camera (walking and photography are twin passions that enable me to wander with a sense of fun and creative purpose).
I strive to inject small bits of joy and happiness - like loving a place - into each and every day. Sometimes the most satisfying joys are derived from simple and ordinary things and places. With that in mind, I intend to 'Fall In Love With A Place', as part of my Third Annual I Resolve To . . . Challenge: 365 Resolutions For Health & Happiness. Why not join me? The objective is very simple: Do at least one thing each and every day to promote health and happiness for 'YOU'. Banish the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome'. Instead, make every day New Year's Day. Make every day count with 'daily resolves'. The list of possibilities is infinite and can be tailored to your own dreams, resolutions and daily goals. If you need some help - a little nudge, a bit of inspiration, tips, advice, and news about the best ways to make resolutions a reality - please use IResolveTo.Com as one of your resources. To better organize myself, each weekend I am posting a Daily Resolve 'To Do List' - at least seven resolutions from my 'Health & Happiness Tapestry' that I plan to achieve, and I will undoubtedly throw in some new ones along the way. My Daily Resolve 'To Do List' is one more way to focus and track the small daily steps that I take toward health and happiness. For decades, I have tracked my dreams, resolutions and daily resolves in my journal and on my calendars with colorful stars. Here are the 'Daily Resolve' highlights for the week:
I RESOLVE TO . . .
- Read a great summer 'beach' book (check).
- Eat daily servings of fresh fruit and veggies (check).
- Begin work with a wonderful new client and project (check)!
- Give my shrubs a haircut and manicure my garden beds (check).
- Swim laps, stretch and walk my favorite neighborhoods - regular exercise rules (check).
- Smile at a stranger on the street - Pre-Meditated Acts of Kindness can make someone's day (check).
- Love my kittens even more when they are at their naughtiest worst - cultivate more patience (check).
The whole purpose of Daily Resolves is to mindfully inject a small bits of joy and healthy habits into each and every day. The small daily steps do add up to big results over time because they are concrete and manageable (which helps to eliminate the fear factor and sense of being overwhelmed). That said, what is really important is 'right now' - enjoying each and every moment of the journey toward health, happiness and making dreams a reality!

You know I not often visit such places, which then attract me. They exist, but it is not enough of them.
