When you are walking do you ever look up at the sky, clouds, interesting buildings, or beautiful trees? Do you offer a smile, or a "hello" to friendly strangers? Or do you stare at your feet? Keeping an eye on your feet and where you are headed is a must for safety, but if you simply look up every once in awhile, you see the most amaazing things. Try it sometime. You might be surprised at what you have been missing.
I am an avid walker and a photographer by trade. I look up a lot. Exercise and capturing beautiful images are two of my top Daily Resolves for good health and happiness. Together they lead me on creative adventures that don't cost a dime, but are worth their weight in gold for both the healthy benefits and the joyful memories. I love to strap on my tennis shoes and head out on favorite five-mile routes. Along the way I enjoy plenty fresh air, a boost in my mood, and the pleasure of experiencing the awesome sights, sounds, smells, smiles, and "hello's" from neighborly folks along the way.
I never grow tired of walking in my own back yard and I am grateful for occasional trips to exotic locales like the Canary Islands pictured above (breath-taking lifelong memories). Walking is a simple, free way to inject small doses of joy and healthy habits into a daily routine.
Better yet, you don't have to travel far and wide to live in awe of your surroundings. Take in the glorious Spring blooms in your back yard, or gas up your car and head out to a State or Federal park in your region. Maybe head to the beach, mountains, an apple orchard, or a farmers market. The list of opportunities is endless. Try this: pull out a map and check out what is available within a 60-mile radius of your home, north, south, east, and west. It is an exercise that will likely offer some pretty interesting results. When you open your mind to possibility and do your homework, there are so many different ways to live a joyful, inspired life. Open your mind and live in awe.
Which brings me to the calendar. We are 71 days from a brand new year. Why wait for January 1, 2014 to begin taking small daily steps toward good health and happiness? Why wait to begin working to fulfill a long-held dream that has been simmering on the backburner. Start today. Join me in pursuing the I Resolve To . . . Challenge: 365 Resolutions For Health & Happiness. The objective is very simple and you can start anytime: Do at least one thing each and every day to promote health and happiness for 'YOU'. Banish
the 'Someday, Someday, Someday Syndrome' and instead add your goals and
dreams to the daily 'In Box'. Stop neglecting yourself and your
passions and start carving out time for 'YOU' and your dreams.
Consider this: Just 30-minutes each day devoted to a dream adds up to 7.5 full days in a single year. Double that daily allotment and you will spend 15 days marching toward achievement. Why wait? Start today. And keep in mind some Daily Resolves take no time at all, they just take resolve! Why not resolve to take your vitamins, take the stairs, drink plenty of water, floss your teeth, perform a kind act, or hit the sheets at a decent hour?
Make every day New Year's Day. Make every day count with 'Daily Resolves'. The list of possibilities is infinite and can be tailored to your own dreams, resolutions and daily goals.
